The Tour

The HCST is one of the premier Studio Tours in Ontario, running for 28 consecutive years and offering thousands of visitors a consistently high quality product and experience. The tour takes place on the weekend before Thanksgiving, and Thanksgiving weekend. All Studios are required to be open on both weekends.  Being a member of the tour means that you will support our mission, which includes:

  • Offering high quality, original, one of a kind art and craft
  • Presenting the opportunity to interact with artists and see where and how they work
  • Presenting a professional, well stocked retail experience
  • Offering a true "Studio Tour" experience, not just an "Art Sale"

Requirements

We accept applications for 2 levels of membership.

1. Studio Artist
2. Guest Artist (must have opening and be hosted by a Studio)

The following apply to both Studios and Guests

  • Your principal residence must be and remain within Haliburton County. To  qualify this we are asking artists to submit a scan of their drivers licence for verification with their application
  • You must have a working Studio in Haliburton County
  • You must be the designer, creator and producer of the art (and your art may not be created with the help of an instructor)
  • All the work that you offer for sale must be original (not kits or reproductions), well conceived, expertly executed and show an identity of design. Only work that has been juried may be offered for sale
  • You must be able to offer a large amount of stock for sale: typically about $15,000 - $20,000 for Studio Artists, $10,000 for Guest Artists
  • You must be able to display work and interact with visitors tastefully and professionally
  • As a Haliburton Studio Tour member you will be required to pay a yearly fee.
  • Your studio must be suitable (safe, pleasant, and accessible) and have adequate parking for large numbers of visitors
  • Liability insurance is required, and is the responsibility of the Studio Artist and Guest Artist
  • You will be required to submit an application and photos of your work.

*2017 application form will be up soon (Sorry) - it is the same as the 2016 one. Please use that one for now.

Stage 2:

If your application is accepted and continuing to stage 2, you will be required to deliver six pieces of your work to the jurying committee at Fleming College. Works will be reviewed by the HSTA group and Jury Committee, and must be delivered and picked up by applicants. Works will be handled with care, but responsibility for the work lies solely with the applicant or their agent delivering and picking up the work

Stage 3:

If accepted, members of the jurying committee will visit your studio to assess suitability, public safety and accessibility.

You will not be offered membership unless you successfully pass all 3 stages of the jurying process.

We are looking for new studios and guest which will enhance the diversity of the work already available on the Studio Tour. If you are not accepted this year, it may have no bearing on the quality or suitability of your work, but rather on the need to keep the Studio Tour fresh, vibrant and diverse.

If you have any questions or want more information, please contact:
